‘Twas the last game before Xmas and the Divas were in Xmas party mode.
We were once again without Striker Aimee and also this time Defender Megan.
Our opposition was our good friends at Ashington so JB felt this would be an easy game to Referee as he refreshed his skills in this area.
The Girls went about their warmups and were in for a surprise when our Physio Carly took control as Pete and JB sorted out the lineups.
JB blew his whistle and the girls took to the pitch, after a few Foul throws and some good passing by both teams the Divas once again found themselves 1-0 down. But in true Diva style this did nothing to deter the spirits in the camp.
The first quarter came to an end (yes that caught everyone off guard as JB forgot to mention this game would be 4 quarters)….and the divas went to Pete for a debrief and to understand the next plan.
Changes of personal were rung but the same enthusiasm and drive were clear to see.
Some excellent passing in the midfield lead to a storming run down the wing from Nyah who got a good shot away which the keeper smothered at the second attempt.
Some great defensive work from the girls at the back meant the quarter was tied at 0-0 (0-1 ).
More changes at half time and bundles of drive with Shona making a blistering run into Ashington box holding off the challenge of two girls but again the effort was snuffed out.
The resulting corner saw a great no look pass from Niamh but we could not finish.
A few more fowl throws and a back pass that the ref missed and we were 2-0 down following a really strong run from Ashington’s key player.
The 4th quarter came in and the Divas seemed to be really enjoying their football players playing out of normal positions and some now trademark runs from Deep into the opposition box by Khloee combined with crunching tackles from Rose meant we finished the game with another 0-0 draw (0-2)
But most importantly a smile on our faces as we really enjoyed the game and could be proud of our efforts.
To top it all off, one of our sponsors Dan turned up with Sweets for all the girls – very very happy Divas.
Mums and dads were amazing as always and before we new it everything was packed away and we were all of home to do our hair for the Divas Xmas Party!
